Abstract

902,464. Two-part couplings. LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd., JOSEPH. Nov. 2, 1959 [Nov. 3, 1958], No. 35171/58. Class 38 (1). The body part 6 of an electrical connector comprises an insulating moulding formed with four cells having projections 13, 14 and each housing a socket 7 including at one end edges 9 folded inwardly as shown in Fig. 2, and at the other end a tubular portion 11 to receive an electric lead, the portion of each socket between the edges 9 being cut to form a resilient tongue with an indentation 12 and the sockets being retained against withdrawal from the cells by the abutment of the tongues against the projections 13. Strip metal connecting pieces 10 inserted in the sockets and gripped by the edges 9 convert the female socket part 6 into an interengageable male plug part 6a, the parts 6, 6a having integral projections 15 and complementary recesses to ensure correct coupling. Holes 10a in the connecting pieces 10 interlock with the indentations 12. A plurality of similar body parts may be connected together side by side as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.
