Abstract
Chlorine-containing polymers are stabilized by incorporating therein a stabilizer of formula <FORM:0902386/IV(a)/1> in which X is oxygen or sulphur and R, R1 and R2 each represent an organic radical bonded to the phosphorus atom by an oxygen, nitrogen or carbon atom. Specified stabilizers include diphenyl phosphoric acid hydrazide, diphenyl thionophosphoric acid hydrazide, di(p-chlorophenyl) phosphoric acid hydrazide, di(p-chlorophenyl) thionophosphoric acid hydrazide, di(p-isododecylphenyl) thionophosphoric acid hydrazide, phenyl phosphoric acid dihydrazide, phenyl thionophosphoric acid dihydrazide, biphenyl-4-thionophosphoric acid dihydrazide, p-cyclohexylphenyl thionophosphoric acid dihydrazide, p-methylphenyl phosphoric acid dihydrazide, p-tert. butylphenyl thionophosphoric acid dihydrazide, p-chlorophenyl phosphoric acid dihydrazide, 2-chloro-5-bromophenyl thionophosphoric acid dihydrazide, b -naphthyl phosphoric acid dihydrazide, b -naphthyl thionophosphoric acid dihydrazide, 2,4,5-trichlorophenyl methylamido thionophosphoric acid hydrazide, diethylamido phosphoric acid dihydrazide, dibutylamido thionophosphoric acid dihydrazide, cyclohexylamido thionophosphoric acid dihydrazide, cyclohexyl phosphoric acid dihydrazide and 4-chlorophenyl thiophosphoric acid dihydrazide. The stabilizers may be used in admixture with known stabilizers, e.g. a -phenylindole. Examples describe the stabilization of (1 to 7) polyvinyl chloride, (8) polychlorobutadiene, (9 and 10) a vinyl chloridevinyl acetate copolymer, and (11 and 12) mixtures of polyvinyl chloride and chlorinated polyethylene.
