Abstract
901,937. Handlebar control mechanisms; twist grips. ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE. Aug. 25, 1960, No. 29408/60. Classes 136(1) and 136(3). A cycle handlebar assembly has a twisting sleeve hand-grip 4 with an arm .7 connected to a sheathed cable 12 and extending from -the sleeve 6 of the grip outside the handlebar and parallel to the axis of the grip to a length such that when viewed along the axis z of the steering pillar 2 a line y-y from the end of the arm 7 tangential to the front of the pillar 2 is perpendicular to the axes x-x of the sleeves. The left hand twist grip 4 operates a decompressor through a link 9 and cable 11, whilst a lever 5- operates the rear brake through a cable 20 passing inside the handlebar to emerge through a hole 19 at -a point where the line y-y is tangential to the curve of the handlebar. The cables 12 and 20 continue together inside a casing 21 which curves with a gentle radius R and after passing through a .perforated plate 15 on a bracket 13 on the handlebar is curved back with a similar radius towards the back wheel. A lug 25 on the handlebar forms an abutment for the sheath of the cable 12. For the front brake a cable 27 emerges from a corresponding casing 21 at a suitable point 29 in the radius thereon to pass through a central Whole in the plate 15 which abuts its sheath.
