Abstract
901,275. Wheeling vehicles on to vehicles. NEWTON, CHAMBERS & CO. Ltd. Dec. 14, 1960 [Dec. 9, 1959], No. 41900/59. Class 78 (4). The floor 5, Fig. 2, of a rail truck 1 can be swung about a pivot 6 to the position shown in which a vehicle or wheeled container can be pulled up ramps 22 on to the truck. As described, the outer end of the floor 5 is supported by a fixed rail 7 and movable rails 17 which can be swung out over the side of the truck and have retractable ground-engaging supports attached to their outer ends. The floor 5 is moved by a screw and nut device to which are attached cables passing round pulleys and guides, power being supplied manually or from the compressed-air or vacuum braking system of the rail truck. A locking-pin which prevents the brakes of the truck being released when the floor is not aligned with the chassis of the truck locks the floor in the desired position. In a second embodiment, Fig. 7, the truck has a flat chassis instead of one of the well-type and rails 31 are provided for the wheels 30 of a container 29. The container is drawn up a ramp 28 and unloaded by a winch 32 which may be manually or power-operated.
