Abstract
900,501. Releasable fastenings. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. Oct. 28, 1960 [Dec. 3, 1959], No. 37110/60. Class 44. [Also in Group XXVIII] A device for connecting a cable 12 with a tool 11 adapted to be pulled through a tube 10 comprises a hollow coupler 17 adapted to have at one end a threaded connection with the tool, a member 18.projecting through the other end of the coupler and having a head 24 located within the coupler for co-operating internally with said other end of the coupler so as to be rotatable with respect thereto while transmitting axial pull of the cable to the hollow coupler, the head and an internal region of the hollow coupler spaced from the other end thereof being engageable with one another upon axial movement of the cable in a direction towards the tool for causing rotation of the cable to make the coupler rotate out of its threaded connection with the tool when the tool becomes stuck in the tube through which it is being pulled. The coupler is in two parts 20, 21 having a threaded connection with each other and the connection between the head and the coupler consists of a transverse key 25 on the head and on slot 26 in the part 21 of the coupler.
