Abstract
909,720. Metal-vapour discharge apparatus. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. Nov. 3, 1959 [Nov. 5, 1958], No. 37279/59. Class 39 (1). In an ignition and excitation arrangement for a single anode discharge tube having an anode 2, grid 3, exciter anode 4, liquid cathode 5 and ignition rod 6, an ignition current impulse is generated when the excitation arc is broken, e.g. in the event of an overload, and, as shown, the excitation circuit includes the primary 31 of a transformer whose secondary 32 feeds the ignition circuit. There is connected in parallel with the excitation circuit a normally closed contact 35a of a relay 35 which pulls up slowly, due to an R.C. element 36, 37 at the closing of the contact 33a. The normally open contact 33a of relay 33 is closed when a current flows in the transformer primary 31. If the exciting current fails, a high voltage is generated in the transformer secondary 32 to cause a current surge to pass through the ignition rod 6.
