Abstract

A soap or wax composition having mycobacteriostatic properties comprises a hydrogenated quinoline or its salt as active ingredient together with a soap, e.g. common soap or potassium soap, or a wax, i.e. animal, vegetable or mineral, e.g. beeswax, carnauba, paraffin or wax polish. Specified hydrogenated quinolines are 2,2,4-trimethyl-1, 2-dihydroquinoline, 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2,3,4,-tetrahydroquinoline, 6-ethyl-2, 2,4-trimethyl-1, 2-dihydroquinoline, 6-n-butyl-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline, 6-ethoxy-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline, 6-chloro-2,2-4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline, 6-chloro-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline, 6-chloro-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline, 6-ethoxy-2,4-diethyl-2-methyl-1-2-dihydroquinoline, 8-hydroxy-2,2,4-trimethyl-1, 2-dihydroquinoline, and 8-hydroxy-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline. Specified salts are the acid addition salts such as hydrochloride, sulphate, acetate and quaternary ammonium salts.ALSO:A synthetic resin composition comprises a hydrogenated quinoline or its salt as active ingredient together with a thermoplastic synthetic resin such as vinyl polymers and copolymers, e.g. polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, and polyethylene or a thermosetting, e.g. phenol-, urea- or melamine-formaldehyde resin. Specified hydrogenated quinolines are 2,2,4-trimethyl-1, 2-dihydroquinoline, 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline, 6-ethyl-2,2,4-trimethyl-1, 2-dihydroquinoline, 6-n-butyl-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline, 6-ethoxy-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline, 6-chloro-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline, 6-chloro-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline, 6-ethoxy-2,4-diethyl-2-methyl-1-2-dihydroquinoline, 8-hydroxy-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline, and 8-hydroxy-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline. Specified salts are the acid addition salts such as hydrochloride, sulphate and acetate and quaternary ammonium salts.ALSO:A mycobacteriostatic composition comprises a hydrogenated quinoline or its salt as active ingredient together with a soap, e.g. common soap or potassium soap, or wax, i.e. animal, vegetable or mineral, e.g. beeswax, carnauba, paraffin or wax polish, or a thermoplastic synthetic resin such as vinyl polymers and copolymers, e.g. polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride and polyethylene or a thermosetting resin, e.g. phenylformaldehyde or melamine resin. Specified hydrogenated quinolines are 2,2,4-trimethyl - 1, 2 - dihydroquinoline, 2,2,4 - trimethyl - 1,2,3,4 - tetrahydroquinoline, 6 - ethyl-2,2,4 - trimethyl - 1, 2 - dihydroquinoline, 6-n - butyl - 2,2,4 - trimethyl - 1,2 - dihydroquinoline, 6 - ethoxy - 2,2,4 - trimethyl - 1,2-dihydroquinoline, 6 - chloro - 2,2,4 - trimethyl-1,2 - dihydroquinoline, 6 - chloro - 2,2,4 - trimethyl - 1,2,3,4 - tetrahydroquinoline, 6-ethoxy - 2,4 - diethyl - 2 - methyl - 1 - 2 - dihydroquinoline, 8 - hydroxy - 2,2,4 - trimethyl-1,2 - dihydroquinoline, and 8 - hydroxy - 2,2,4-trimethyl - 1,2,3,4 - tetrahydroquinoline. Specified salts are the acid addition salts such as hydrochloride, sulphate and acetate and quaternary ammonium salts.
