Abstract

909,162. Tube couplings. ELECTROLUX Ltd. March 31, 1959 [April 1, 1958], No. 10818/59. Class 99(1). In a coupling or locking device for mounting as an extension to an outer tube 10 within which an inner tube 16 can be received telescopically, the tube 10 has at least one rolling member between a wall 22 having an inclined surface and the surface of the tube 16, the distance from the tube axis of the inclined surface decreasing towards the open end of the outer tube and the rolling member being urged into inner tube clamping position by a spring-actuated holder 26 having operating means for moving the holder against the spring action to release the inner tube. The spring-actuated holder is a flat slide to which is secured a single, elongated roller 32 transverse to the axis of the inner tube and rotatable about its own axis and having a surface substantially matched to the cylindrical outer surface of the inner tube, and the slide carries the operating means 44 which is guided through a slot 40 in the wall having the inclined surface. As shown, a yoke 28 accommodating an axle 30 supporting wheels or rollers 32 is secured to a member 26 engaged with a manual control knob 44 having a lug 42 slidable in a slot 40 formed in the inclined guide 22 of a housing 24. The latter has a bore 38 receiving a compression spring 36 engaged on a pin 34 connected to the member 26. A force applied to the knob 44 causes the wheels 32 to be displaced radially and allow removal of the tube 16 from the socket 12.
