A sabot of constrictable metallic, or non- metallic, such as a thermoplastic or fibre glass, material comprises a cylindrical front portion 4, a tapered rear portion 9 and a cylindrical aperture to receive a projectile 2. Four longitudinal slits are formed in the rear portion to enable the sabot to frictionally engage the inserted projectile, and may be filled with resilient non- metallic material which forms a gas-check.
