Abstract

908,702. Digesters. ESCHER WYSS G.m.b.H. Feb. 6, 1959 [Feb. 6, 1958], No. 4284/59. Class 64 (1). A continuously acting digester comprises a pressure vessel 1 fed with material to be pulped from hopper 2 and a steam supply to pipes 6 which communicate with a jacket 4 in which there are holes 4<SP>1</SP> and which feeds a perforated pipe 5 extending into the material from the top, whereby steam is distributed within the upper part of the column of material 11. A delivery device 7 and exhaust valve 8 feed an expansion container 10. The exhaust valve is connected to a feeler member 12 whereby the column of material is maintained at a constant level. Two or more pipes 5 may be incorporated, and the pressure vessel may be only partially jacketed.
