Abstract
During the leaching step in the production of a Raney metal, the Raney alloy is maintained at a positive potential with respect to the reversible hydrogen potential of the leach solution. The Raney alloy may be in the form of granules or a shaped body and is preferably maintained at 100-2,000 mV more than the potential of an unattachable cathode in the leach solution. Alternatively the Raney alloy may be (a) dosed with oxygen or air or (b) connected to an oxygen electrode in the leach solution to establish the required positive potential. In the latter case hydrogen is advantageously supplied to the alloy body. After production of the Raney metal the potential may be reversed for an extended period to promote evolution of hydrogen. Specification 806,644 is referred to.ALSO:During the leaching step in the production of a Raney metal, the Raney alloy is maintained at a positive potential with respect to the reversible hydrogen potential of the leach solution.
