Abstract
908,389. Glass manufacture. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. Oct. 20, 1959 [Oct. 23, 1958 (2); Jan. 14, 1959 (2)], No. 35481/59. Class 56. Tongs for supporting glass, particularly during annealing, comprise arms 54, 56, pivoted at 58 and provided with pointed screws 64, 66 for gripping the edge of the sheet G, and a member for limiting the distance between the arms to which the glass is inserted, which member is pivoted, either about the axis 58, as is the member 70, Fig. 1, or about the axis of the screws 64, 66. Thus, Fig. 5 shows parallel strips 142, on either side of the arms, bridged at their ends by members 148 pivoted on the screws. The strips 142 may be replaced by pins projecting from a single member pivoted on one of the screws. Members, such as rings 76, 78 attached to the arms guide the glass as it is moved upwards into position. The means for suspending the tongs form the subject-matter of Specification 908,390.
