Abstract
A composition for such uses as shoe soling and floor tiling is based on 25-29 parts of a hard copolymer of a C4-C8 conjugated diolefine with 85-90% of a vinyl aromatic compound and 75-71 parts of a rubbery copolymer of a C4-C8 conjugated diolefine and 0-40% of a vinyl aromatic compound. The diolefine may be butadiene-1,3, isoprene, dimethyl butadiene-1,3 or pentadiene. The vinyl aromatic compound may be styrene, chlorostyrene or p-methyl styrene. The rubbery polymer may be softened with up to 50% of hydrocarbon oil. Examples are concerned with preparing and mixing latices of a copolymer of 66% butadiene and 34% styrene and a copolymer of 14% butadiene and 86% styrene, coagulating blends from the mixtures, and testing vulcanized formulations of the blends with fine hydrated calcium silicate, hydrous aluminium silicate clay, powdered cellulose, coumaroneindene resin, paraffin wax, stearic acid, yellow ferric oxide hydrate, red iron oxide, zinc oxide, sulphur and accelerators.
