Abstract

907,338. Transformers; converting. SIEMENS-REINIGER-WERKE A.G. Dec. 22, 1960 [Dec. 23, 1959], No. 44184/60. Class 38 (2). A three-phase high voltage step-up transformer, for use with X-ray equipment, comprises three limbs of equal cross-sectional area joined by end yokes 12 (Fig. 5) and also by an intermediate yoke 13 having half the cross-sectional area of a limb and carries two sets of L.T. windings connected to mains RST (Fig. 6) and arranged on the limbs, one set on each side of the centre yoke so as to produce in the latter opposing fluxes displaced by 30 degrees, thus reducing the ripple in the voltage supplied by the two secondary windings to separate fullwave rectifiers supplying the X-ray equipment. In a preferred arrangement the first parts of the first and second L.T. winding sections are star connected while the second parts are connected to them in zig-zag, in the first case to produce in the centre limb a flux 15 degrees in advance with respect to the associated star sections and in the second a flux 15 degrees behind with respect to the flux in the associated star sections, both H.T. windings being star connected.
