[Also in Group XIII] In a band knife splitting-machine in which the workpiece 1 is fed between a guide-roller 2 and a roller composed of annular segments 3, the segmental roller is driven by means of external and internal rotatably-mounted rollers 7, 8 having resilient coverings, the roller 7 being fixed and the roller 8 being urged towards the roller 7 by means of a spring 10, and each segment 3 is supported by a roller 17 carried by a spring- influenced pivotally-mounted lever 16. The internal diameter of each segment 3 is smaller at its centre than at its ends.
