Abstract
905,838. Multiplex systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 1, 1961 [Jan. 29, 1960], No. 3289/60. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group XL (c)] In an apparatus for converting time-division multiplex signals to frequency-division multiplex signals, the signals in each case being amplitude modulated, the train of amplitudemodulated pulses is supplied via lead 2 to channel gates 1 which are supplied with gating pulses over lead 3 to select the component signals of the respective channels. The signals passed by each gate are narrow pulses rich in harmonics and their associated sidebands and having a pulse recurrence frequency, in the example given, of 10 kc/s., which is fed through an associated band-pass filter 4 having a pass band between 6 and 10 kc/s. to a channel amplifier 5. The outputs of the amplifiers 5, in the frequency range 6-10 kc/s. are supplied to corresponding frequency changers 6 which translate the signals into respective frequency bands 30-34, 36-40, 40-44 kc/s. &c., these signals being combined and passed through a group amplifier 9 to a common output circuit 10. In an alternative arrangement each filter 4 is arranged to select a sideband of a harmonic frequency in a band unique to that channel whereby the frequency-changers 6 may be dispensed with.
