Abstract
905,818. Roads expansion joints; prestressed concrete. PNEUMATIQUES ET CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE KLEBER COLOMBES. Feb. 1, 1961 [Feb. 2, 1960], No. 3893/61. Class 20 (4). An expansion and compression joint for concrete roads, capable of maintaining the concrete slabs of the road under substantial compression, comprises an inflatable tube 6 of elastic material confined within at least two metallic elements, which are relatively movable widthwise of the tube, a zone of variable width between relatively closely-spaced surfaces of the metallic elements being filled with a mass or strip of rubber-like material to prevent the tube from being caught or pinched between such surfaces. In the exemplified embodiment the metallic elements consist of interfitting channels 7, 8 and the rubber-like filler strips 9, 10 are positioned in the inner corner zones of the larger channel so as to be engaged by the end surfaces of the flanges of the smaller channel. The filler strips 9, 10 may be attached to the channel 8 or may be integrally formed with the tube 6. The end surfaces of the road slabs 2, 3 are lined with metal sheets 4, 5 anchored therein.
