Abstract
Metallic ores are comminuted and the valuable fraction recovered by subjecting the ore to pulses of H.F. electromagnetic energy. The valuable fraction, such as gold, may be vaporized by the pulses and the condensed metal recovered by solution in a solvent such as cyanide; alternatively, the ore in a solvent solution may be subjected to the H.F. treatment. The H.F. treatment may be effected by passing an ore on a belt conveyer of low-energy-absorbing material through a helical coil, near to a pancake coil, and/or between the plates of a condenser, each connected to a source of H.F. energy which may be of 100 watts average energy dissipation and capable of delivering 100 pulses per sec. of 10 kw. energy with a frequency of 5 megacycles per sec. The ore may also be conveyed in a tube, trough or launder.
