Abstract

905,252. Finishing fabrics; netted fabrics. PLASTIC TEXTILE ACCESSORIES Ltd. March 21, 1961 [April 4, 1960], No. 11835/60. Classes 42 (1) and 74 (1). The net strands of an extruded plastic net are molecularly orientated but the net intersections left substantially unstretched by stretching the net in a direction transverse to the lengthwise extent of the net as considered in its direction of extrusion. The net is stretched by the machine shown in Fig. 1 after the plastic has been fixed or set. The margins of a longitudinally slit tubular net fed from a reel 1 are gripped by stenter clips on endless chains 2, 3 which extend parallel to each other in a zone A, preferably a pre-heating zone, and diverge in a zone B. At the end of zone B fixed or rotary knives 9 sever the margins engaged by the clips, the severed edges being deposited as waste on opening of the clips before they re-enter the zone A. The net passes to driven, pressure rolls 7, preferably warmed to flatten the net intersections i, Fig. 2. If the net to be stretched has diamond-shaped meshes with diagonal lying longitudinally of the net, the stretching elongates the meshes in the direction of the other diagonal so that the strands s lie generally parallel to each other, perpendicular to the net length and linked by thicker intersections at rightangles thereto. A flattened, unslit tubular net may be stretched by the machine of Fig. 1. Specification 836,555 is referred to.
