[Also in Group XXXI] A vehicle steering-gear, particularly for power assisted mechanisms comprises a screwed steering-wheel shaft 11 actuating a nut 14 which has pins 20 thereon co-operating with diverging slots 22, 23 in a cam-plate 21 secured to the pitman shaft 12. This arrangement provides a high ratio steering in the straight ahead position but lower ratios towards the full lock positions. Hydraulic power may be applied to the plate 21 at 27 by a piston controlled by a valve spool 35 on the shaft 11 operated by slight initial movement of shaft on a steering movement, as described in Specification 818,483.
