Abstract
904,784. Ornamental lanterns. WOOD, J. H., BAXTER, S., TOMLINSON, W. R., and LEESON, A. E. June 12, 1961 [March 12, 1960], No. 8797/60. Classes 75 (2) and 75 (4). A lighting fitting comprisea a hollow opaque frame having a plurality of openings in which are located transparent or translucent elements of hollow cup-like formation with their hollow sides facing inwards, made from synthetic resinous material. In the form shown, the lantern comprises four sides 11 and a frusto-pyramidal top 13 which overhangs the sides in the manner of eaves and is constructed of sheet-metal united by soldering, brazing or welding. Each side has a number of roughly rectangular openings in which are inserted transparent or translucent elements 15 of hollow cup-shape made, e.g., of cellulose acetate. Each surface of the tap 13 has a single similar opening provided with a similar transparent or translucent element 15. A support plate 16 having a central opening is provided in the top 13 for attachment of the fitting to an electric lamp holder. The elements 15 have boundary flanges 23 by which they may be secured in the openings by adhesive. Alternatively, or in addition, a rigid backing- member of colourless transparent material 24, e.g. glass, may be secured inside each of the sides by metal tongues 25 secured to the top and bottom of the side to retain the elements 15 in position. The elements 15 may be of varying size and may be coloured. They are preferably so arranged that no two elements of the same size or colour are adjacent to one another.
