Abstract
904,014. Electric selectivesignalling systems. PANELLIT Inc. Dec. 30. 1958, No. 42111/58. Class 40 (1). General.-In a monitoring system, output signals from a plurality of transducers (thermocouples) are continuously scanned at high speed by switch 6a, Fig. 2, if a sampled signal does not lie within a given range of values, an alarm 13 is operated by detector 9 and the scan is interrupted momentarily while the signal is measured and recorded on typewriter 4, Fig. 3, together with the time and the identity of the abnormal signal channel, then the high-speed scan is resumed. At predetermined intervals a complete recording scan is performed during which the following operations take place : (i) a first group of signals (1-75) is scanned at high speed by switch 6b to detect any abnormal signals, the results of the scan being stored at 17a, by relays, for example; (ii) the same group is then scanned slowly by switch 6c, each successive signal is measured and recorded on typewriter 2, Fig. 3, the corresponding stored information (i.e. normal or abnormal) being simultaneously supplied to the typewriter so that it prints in red for an abnormal signal or in black for a normal signal; (iii) a complete high-speed scan is made by switch 6a to detect and record all abnormal signals; (iv) steps (i)-(iii) are repeated for the next group (76-150) and all remaining groups (if any) by means of corresponding switches 6d, 6e and store 18a; (v) high-speed scanning is resumed by switch 6a. Measurement and recording operations.-Each thermocouple output is supplied to a selfbalancing bridge circuit 40 having output shafts 42, 44, 46 which position the wipers 51, 53, 57 of respective ten-position switches so as to represent the value of the signal in decimal code. The identity of an abnormal signal detected during a high-speed scan by switch 6a is supplied to typewriter 2 by means of a device 59, Fig. 2, which positions the wipers of tenposition switches 56a-56c, Fig. 3, so as to represent the angular position of the shaft of switch 6a in decimal code, and the time at which the abnormal signal is detected is supplied to typewriter 2 by means of a timing device 55 which drives the wipers of tenposition switches 55a-55d representing hours and minutes. The wipers of switches 55a- 55d, 56a-56c and wipers 51, 53, 57 are energized in succession of switch 58 to provide a serial train of operating signals for typewriter 2. In a recording scan, switch 88 repeatedly energizes wipers 51, 53, 57 in succession as it is stepped over contacts 1-226 in synchronism with the scan of the group of signals 1-75 or 76-150 by switch 6b or 6e respectively. Specification 807,157 is referred to.
