892,815. Fluid-flow meters; electric selective-signalling systems. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT Ltd. March 19, 1959 [Dec. 19, 1957], No. 39539/57. Class 40 (1). A fluid-flow meter comprises a positive displacement pump, e.g. a gear pump 1, driven by motor 4, at such a speed that the pressure difference across the pump, sensed by differential pressure gauge 2, is kept to a minimum. Total rotation of the motor shaft is detected and indicated by pick-up 9 and counter 10 and rate of flow indicated by the output of tachogenerator 5, which also applies feed-back to amplifier 3 driving the pump motor. The amplifier may be electronic, magnetic or hydraulic, and the flow-meter may be used to indicate displacement if measuring the fluidflow to an hydraulic jack or similar device.
