Abstract

892,447. Skid rails for metal heating furnaces. BRITISH GECO ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Aug. 15, 1960 [Aug. 14, 1959], No. 27922/59. Class 51 (2). [Also in Group XI] The funnel of a tunnel furnace contains rails 7, 8 which are anchored by means engaging them only at or near their ends nearest the outlet of the tunnel: Thus two metal rods 7, 8 are laid in grooves 5, 6 in the tunnel wall, the ends 9, 10 of rods being secured to a member 11 which is rigidly secured to the tunnel casing 2. The rails may comprise several rod sections laid end to end in the grooves, and the ends of the sections nearest the outlet may abut against projections in the grooves. The rods may be of square or rectangular X-section and may also be tapered towards the inlet to allow for " runon." In this way the rails are always in a state of compression as billets move over them.
