Abstract

A plurality of substantially unidirectional fibre bundles 1 are impregnated with a liquid matrix which may be resin or metal. One or more pins 3 are placed between the fiber bundles in a substantially perpendicular direction to the main orientation of the fiber bundles before impregnating the fiber bundles with the liquid matrix. The pin(s) 3 may be removed before the matrix has set or else can form part of the moulded article. The presence of the pin(s) 3 allows more coherent distribution of the matrix throughout the fibre bundles 1. Instead of pins sewing filaments (52), Fig. 5 (not shown), may be used. <IMAGE>
