Abstract

891,434. Setting-up cartons. HESSER MASCHINENFABRIK-A.G., FR. Feb. 25, 1960 [March 5, 1959], No. 6671/60. Class 94(1). [Also in Group XXX] Collapsed boxes in a magazine 2 are extracted by means 5 such that they are opened and fed between projecting elements 4 on a conveyer belt 3. The boxes 1, open at the top and bottom, are initially supported by a bar 6 until they reach a positioning device 10 having one or more adjustable abutments that move up and down in synchronism with the machine to displace each carton vertically to a level 17 appropriate for the means that folds and secures the bottom flaps in position. As shown the device 10 is below the conveyer belt and is a rotating disc 13 having radially adjustable fingers 14 that engage the boxes to raise them from the level 6 to the level 17. Alternatively, the positioning device 10 may be. above the conveyer belt 3 to displace the boxes 1 downwardly. Guide bars 8 prevent the boxes 1 from falling outwardly of the conveyer. The belt 3 may move continuously. After the bottom flaps have been folded in and stuck, the cartons are filled and closed.
