Abstract
891,076. Centrifugal pumps. SIBER, L. Jan. 28, 1960 [Jan. 28, 1959], No. 3092/60. Class 110 (1). [Also in Group XIII] A centrifugal pump comprises a housing with a plurality of inlets and outlets, a hollow rotary valve member with openings such that the inlets and outlets can be opened and closed with respect to the interior of the valve member, an impeller dividing the interior of the valve member into an inlet space and an outlet space, apertures in the valve member guiding the discharge from the impeller into a volute encircling the valve member, and a passage leading from the volute and capable of being opened and closed with respect to the outlet space. The centrifugal pump shown in Figs. 2, 15 and 16 comprises inlets 1, 4 and outlets 2, 3. The pump impeller h is surrounded by a cylindrical valve c formed with guide passages 12 through which the impeller discharges to a volute m. The impeller h divides the valve c into an inlet space 5, Figs. 2, 6, 16, and an outlet space 6, Figs. 2, 15, 16. Space 5 provides communication between the inlets 1, 4 and the impeller eye. Space 6 provides communication between the outlets 2, 3 and a discharge passage leading from the volute m. The valve c can be turned by a handle k (or automatically by an electric motor in response to temperature) into alternative positions giving various combinations of opening and closing of communication between the pump and the inlets and outlets. In one position, the inlet 1 is opened simultaneously to both spaces 5, 6 whereby the pump is by-passed.
