Abstract
A process for separating an optically active a -phenoxy alkanoic acid of from 9 to 11 carbon atoms from a mixture with its antipode comprises treating a solution of said mixture in an inert organic solvent with an optically active lysine, separating the lysine salt of one of said antipodes by fractional crystallization and recovering the desired optically active acid. In examples is described the resolution of DL-a - isovaleric - and - a - methyl - butyric acids with L-lysine and of DL-a -phenoxypropionic-and -butyric acids with D-lysine. Optically active lysines may be prepared by passing an aqueous solution of optically active lysine hydrochlorides through a bed of an anion-exchange resin.
