Abstract
898,273. Bending. WIRTH, A. H. July 16, 1959 [July 17, 1958], No. 24519/59. Class 83 (4). A machine for bending wire or band includes a saddle unit mounted on a work-table around a die mounted centrally in an opening of the work-table, a tool support carried by the saddle unit being movable therein to and from the die by a cam on the saddle unit, and the worktable, with the die and saddle units and the drive belonging thereto, being rotatable about a horizontal axis. Wire or strip is straightened and fed by means 16, adjustable transversely and perpendicularly on a work-table 4, to a die (not shown), mounted in a hollow member 10, against which die the wire or strip is bent by tools 15, movable to and from the die on saddles 12 by rotating cams 13. The whole table unit 4 is rotatable about horizontal trunnions 3, 5 by worm-gear or a crank handle so that adjustments of the various tools may be carried out when the table is horizontal and the wire bent when the table 4 has been rotated to a vertical position so that the finished article may drop away. The table 4 may be turned while the drive to the cam 13 is in operation. The saddles 12 are adjustably locked in a peripheral groove 11a in plate 11, in a circular opening 4a in the top surface of the table 4, secured to the hollow member 10 which is in turn secured to the work-table 4. The cams 13 are mounted on shafts carrying pinions 14 driven through gears 9, 8, 7 from a motor 18. Downwardly extending necks 12a of the saddles 12 bear against the inner edge of the opening 4a. In a modification, Fig. 3, a tool 22 is moved towards the die along a saddle 20, 21 by a cam 35 and away from the die by a cam 37 both cams being mounted on a shaft 27 rotated, through gearing 24, 25, 26 by the pinion 14. The cams 35, 37 may be located at a higher level on the saddle, Fig. 4 (not shown), so that two saddle units may be clamped in position closely side by side on the work-table.
