Abstract

894,486. Ironing-tables. NEWBY, R. L. (Proctor-Silex Corporation). Dec. 30, 1960, No. 44729/60. Classes 52(1) and 52(3) In an ironing-table, a folding underframe has a single pair of wheels 32, 33 which are free to rotate only when leg 22 is inclined to the vertical. The wheels 32, 33 are arranged to be self-braking when leg 22 is in a substantially vertical position and the folded table is leant against a wall. An axle 34 for wheels 32, 33 extends through tube 29 and is journalled in plate 37 fitted in the ends of the tube. Each plate 37 has a hole 42 only part 43 of which is concentric with the axis of tube 29. When leg 22 is moved to the vertical position (Fig. 5, not shown) part 44 of the hole is higher than part 43 and the axle 39 is thus constrained to move towards part 44. The overlying rubber side wall portion 36 of wheel 32 is forced against tube 29 so that the wheel cannot rotate. Reference is made to an alternative form in which the wheels extend within the tube 29 and engage its inner surface. Tube 28 carries non-rotatable rubber cups 30, 31. The legs 21, 22 fold flat against the underside of the table top 20 which may be adjusted in height by the arrangement described in Specification 781,829.
