Abstract
894,155. Centreless grinding. KAYSER, ELLISON & CO. Ltd. April 27, 1961 [Jan. 27, 1960], No. 2884/60. Class 60. The feeding of wire or small diameter bar stock through a centreless grinding machine is assisted by a driven roller disposed transversely to the feed path at the run-out side of the machine, whereby the feed is maintained substantially at the required rate; the roller is surfaced with material, e.g. felt, to make a frictional engagement with the wire or stock without damaging it. The wire 17 is fed from the table 15 of the machine between a driven felt roller 35 and a felt-surfaced idler roller 44 having tension spring 45 to bring it into contact within the limit imposed by adjustable stops 46, 47 which control the upward movement of the pivoted arms 41 between which the roller 44 is mounted. The rollers 35 and 44 are mounted on a vertically adjustable table 20 on a slide 23 which may be moved transversely of the axis of the wire, to prevent grooving, by a handle 30 and threaded shaft 26. The roller 35 is driven by motor 31, which may be a variable speed electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic motor, or one of constant speed driving through an infinitely variable speed-gear. The idler roller is preferably adjustable in relation to the driven roller to prevent deflection of the wire away from contact with the driven roller.
