Abstract

881,196. Road vehicle pneumatic spring suspensions. CRANES (DEREHAM) Ltd. Feb. 24, 1958, No. 5963/58. Class 108(2). At vehicle suspension comprises, at each side of the vehicle, trailing arms 2, 6 which are pivoted to the vehicle at 2a, 6a and carry stub axles 7, 7a, beams 9 and 11 rigidly secured to arms 2 and 6 respectively, and an air spring 13 secured between the free ends of the beams. The air springs are provided with valves (not shown) which automatically vary the pressures in the springs in proportion to the load which they have to withstand. Rubber blocks are provided inside the springs to protect the suspension in the event of the air spring not operating correctly. Supplementary hydraulic shock absorbers 15 may be provided to assist the air springs.
