Abstract
889,244. Fourdrinier paper-making machines. BELOIT IRON WORKS. Feb. 24, 1959 [Nov. 17, 1958], No. 6377/59. Class 96. A paper-making machine, particularly for crÛped tissue paper, is made compact as by the use of an open-weave felt 24, Fig. 1, and by the use of a Yankee drier drum 29, so that the framework of the whole machine is transportable. Pulp from a supply pipe 38, Fig. 3, flows past flow-evener rolls 40, 41, through the slice 45 which is adjustable at 44, and on to the wirecloth 48 at the breast roll 23, the pulp delivery speed being the same as the wire-cloth speed. The web thus formed is subjected to suction at 51, couched at 25, passed through a wet press 26 which has an upper suction roll 69, and is applied to the Yankee drum 29 with the aid of a sticker roll 28. The web is doctored off by a creping doctor 87 and calendered at 30 and 31. A cleaning doctor 90 is pressure-actuated at 91. A doctor 27 may be provided for the lower wet press roll 67. The felt 24 is tensioned at 86 and moistened at 86a. Due to the open weave &c., nip pressure at the couch forces air from the felt 24 through the web, which aids in displacing white water; the suction thus generated in the felt as it leaves the nip aids in transferring the web from the wire to the felt. Alternatively, pick-up may occur between a suction couch roll and a wire-return roll, with the aid of a plain or a suction pick-up roll, or without a pick-up roll, but with the aid of a suction box against the felt 24 and an air blast through the wire. Suction may assist in drying the felt.
