Abstract

888,860. Protecting cylindrical packages. WYE PLASTICS Ltd. Feb. 20, 1958 [Feb. 20, 1957 ; May 24, 1957], Nos. 5774/57 and 16584/57. Class 94(1). The ends of a reel of paper or cellulose are protected by a core plug moulded in one piece from polystyrene or cellulose acetate (with or without a wood filler). The plug comprises a main tubular part 51, a lip 52 which abuts the end of the reel and a part 53 intermediate the ends of the plug for stiffening the leading edge 51a. In a modification, Fig. 4, the stiffening member comprises an inner tubular portion 35, radial ribs 36, and a flange 33 extending in the plane of the leading edge 51a. Ribs 34 may be provided on the exterior surface of the plug and may be tapered or serrated.
