Abstract
888,804. Separating liquid particles from vapours. COMPAIN, J. D. Feb. 3, 1959 [Feb. 11, 1958], No. 3710/59. Class 123(3) A separator for removing liquid particles from a stream of vapour, particularly for use in an evaporator for concentrating sugar solution, comprises inclined baffle plates 10 which at their sides and lower edges are secured to the wall 1 of the evaporator, &c., whilst their free upper edges merge into downwardly-directed flanges 2 carrying inwardly-turned channel sections 3 which serve to collect liquid deposited as the flow of vapour reverses in direction above the channels as indicated by the arrows. The channel sections 3 have drain tubes 5 which return the collected liquid to the bulk of liquid in the heating section H of the evaporator. In a modification, Fig. 5, baffle skirts 14 with their lower edges bridged by plates 16 having further drain tubes 18 are provided to guide the vapour around the channel sections 3 and divert it upwardly between adjoining flanges 2.
