887,267. Automatic control systems. INDUSTRIAL NUCLEONICS CORPORATION. Jan. 10, 1958 [Feb. 20, 1957], No. 1059/58. Class 38 (4). A voltage representative of a characteristic of the product 12 of a process is converted into an " error " signal for automatic control purposes (the circuitry for utilizing the error signal is the subject-matter of divisional Specification 887.271), by subtracting from it a reference voltage preset by potentiometer 70 in circuit 62, and applying the resultant voltage to amplifier 44, part of the output from which (from point 80) is used as negative feedback, a potentiometer 92 across point 80 allowing for a variable gain (shown in dial 93) in the output to point 100. The input is shown as derived from a radiation gauge 18 measuring the weight or thickness of the product 12, and 70 is set to give between points 86 and 88 a voltage corresponding to the desired value of the characteristics; the error then appears on meter 76.
