Abstract
886,887. Glass. COLUMBIA-SOUTHERN CHEMICAL CORPORATION. July 8, 1960 [Aug. 26, 1959], No. 23862/60. Class 56. A batch of glass-making ingredients comprising alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate includes added water amounting to 5 % to 20 % by weight, and is cooled below 50‹F. during mixing. The mixer may be surrounded by pipes carrying cold brine. The ingredients such as sand, limestone and soda ash, may be first mixed dry and the water then added. The batch may be heated to 90‹F.-200‹F. before being fed to the furnace.
