Abstract
Unsaturated fatty oils such as castor, cotton seed and soybean oils are hydrogenated in the presence of a supported catalyst comprising Pd metal and a compound of a metal selected from Hg, Ag, Bi and Cu. Carbon is the preferred support, but e.g., alumina, silica gel, kieselguhr or asbestos may also be used. In addition to single promoters, a combination such as Ag+Bi may be used.
