Abstract

886,314. Centrifugal separators. DYNAMIC FILTERS Inc. Jan. 26, 1959. No. 2792/59. Class 23. [Also in Group XXVI] A centrifugal clarifier comprises a rotor 41 having annular chambers 200, 201 for the reception of separated solids. Fuel to be cleaned from a stationary inlet 13 flows through apertures 63 and annular passage 203 into an annular chamber 204 within the rotor. Vanes 61a, . . . 61d are provided in the chamber 204 to rotate the liquid. During passage of the fuel through the chamber 204 solids pass through louvers 85 and are deposited in the chamber 200. The fuel leaves the chamber 204 through ducts 93 and passes into an annular chamber 205. During passage of the fuel through the chamber 205 solids pass through louvers 97 to deposit in the chamber 201. The chambers 200, 201 have vanes 82, 99 which maintain an even distribution of the deposited solids and so prevent unbalance of the rotor. Cleaned fluid is discharged from the chamber 205 and the rotor through holes 101 into the casing 206 which has an outlet (not shown). Different diameter guides 139 may be attached to the rotor to cover the holes 101 so that the pressure difference on the fuel passing through the rotor may be controlled. The clarifier is dismantled for cleaning by removing screws 30, removing part 29 of the casing, sliding the hollow drive member 45 together with the rotor from the drive shaft 15, sliding the stub shaft 39 from the drive member, unscrewing screws 72 to force off part 71 from the rotor, and separating the interior parts of the rotor.
