Abstract

885,276. Laying pipe-lines. GAZ DE FRANCE. July 29, 1960 [Aug. 4, 1959], No. 26587/60. Addition to 863,000. Class 99(2). In a method of laying submerged pipe lines according to the parent Specification and comprising the steps of hauling a first section in the vicinity of the surface of the water and sinking to the bottom that portion of the section remote from the hauling point, hauling a second section in the vicinity of the surface of the water and connecting one end thereof to the corresponding end of the first section and sinking the whole to the bottom with the exception of the opposite end of the second section, and in repeating the operation of hauling, assembling and immersing a number of times according to the number of sections, the greater portion of the assembled pipe line is maintained in a substantially straight line, and a predetermined length of the free end thereof is caused to assume a substantially S-shaped configuration, the upper part of which is positioned in the vicinity of the surface of the water and substantially parallel to the said straight line porton of the assembled pipe line the said second section being then assembled with the said upper part. The pipe-line sections are supported by floats L during hauling, and joining of the sections is facilitated by the use of an anchored anti-swell barge provided with floats 10 carrying rollerways formed by articulated members 100 mounting rollers 101, the connection of the sections being performed on a rollerway 102.
