873,824. Anamorphotic tens systems. KODAK Ltd., Sept. 10, 1957 [Sept. 14, 1956], No. 28528/57. Class 97(1) An anamorphotic lens system for use with a spherical lens system 10 so as to receive therefrom a convergent bundle of imageforming rays and to form an anamorphosed image in a plane 15 near the image plane 12 of the spherical lens system, comprises two cylindrical components and an additional simple meniscus lens element 6 having negative power in the neutral plane and located with its concave surface facing the front of the lens system. The front component consists of two simple cylindrical lenses 1, 2 and has a positive power in the active plane and substantially zero power in the neutral plane, while the second component consists of a positive cylindrical doublet 3, 4 and a simple bi-concave cylindrical lens 5, this component having a negative power in the active plane which is numerically greater than the power of the front component and substantially zero power in the neutral plane. Preferably, the negative meniscus lens element 6 has spherical surfaces and differing negative powers in the active and the neutral planes and may, as shown, be disposed in front of a plano-convex cylindrical lens element 7, which has a positive power in the neutral plane less than the negative power of the element 6 in that plane. Optical data are given for one example of the objective shown. In another form, the meniscus element 6 is formed by a toric lens and in place of the lens 7 a spherical lens of positive power is positioned nearer the front of the objective.
