A rowlock 2, in which the shank 4 is accommodated in. a slot 6 in a mounting block 1 and is provided with a spring 11 which retains the rowlock in either the upward operative or downward stowed position, is moveable from one position to the other by withdrawing the shank until the collar 10 clears the recess 8 or 9 and traversing it along the slot 6.
