Abstract

873,107. Castors. BRITISH CASTORS Ltd., and GODARD & CO. Ltd., C. W. April 29, 1959 [May 7, 1958], No. 14627/58. Class 52(1). In a castor having rolling and swivel brakes applied simultaneously by operation of a member 11, a thread guard 3 is moulded in one with a leg 1 and has therein the axle 4 for the wheel 5 which axle carries a threaded head portion 10 fitted to member 11 by means of a disc 12 so that depression of the end of member 11 causes disc 12 to rotate on head 10 and approach leg 1 to urge a brake pin 14 towards the wheel against spring 15. Member 11 also has a cam surface engaging a similar surface 17 on the lower end of swivel brake lever 18, the other end of which has serrations 19 engageable with teeth 20 on the spindle 2 about which leg 1 swivels so that when the end of member 11 is depressed lever 18 is moved against a spring 25 to lock the leg against swivelling.
