Abstract

A heat resistant beaten enamel comprises (1) as binder a methylphenylsiloxane resin of molecular weight at least 4000 and having a hydrocarbon : Si ratio of 1,3-1,6 and a phenyl : Si ratio of 0,4-0,7; (2) Al powder of a non-filmforming type; (3) a dimethyl polysiloxane gum of molecular weight between 100,000 and 500,000, and (4) a solvent for the siloxane resin (1). A catalyst for resin (1), one or more organic binders, a colouring pigment, e.g. a metal oxide, a spinel, and cadmium-sulphide or -sulphoselenide, and titanium esters, may also be added. A suitable composition comprises by weight, per 100 parts: 30-70 parts of a methylphenylsiloxane resin containing 0,5%-2,0% of Sibonded vinyl radicals; 60-20 parts of toluene or xylene; 5-15 parts of a paste of Al powder as a 70% suspension in white spirit, or a mixture of this paste with an equal weight of colouring pigment; 0,2-1 part of an unsubstituted or chlorinated aromatic or aliphatic solvent solution containing 2%-20% of a dimethylsiloxane gum. The siloxane resin may be modified by a glycerophthalic or other polyester resin. Examples are given.
