Abstract
871,635. Pneumatic conveyers. EXPANDED PERLITE Ltd. Dec. 14, 1959 [Dec. 17, 1958], No. 40689/58. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XXVIII] Insulating material is forced into an annular cavity surrounding a pipe 1 by injection from a pressure chamber 24. Pressure is supplied from a pump 50 (which may be replaced by a storage cylinder), a water trap 48, an air dryer 46, and control valve 43 to vents 37 in an annular orifice 36 leading from the chamber 24 via a pipe 39 to the chamber 3. The pipe 39 has a transparent section 40. A branch pipe from the main pressure source leads via a control-valve 56 to a nozzle 54 in alignment with the orifice 36. A tubular attachment 11 is secured to an aperture 5 at the other end of the pipe and forms a connection for a hessian bag 15. A conduit 12 leads via a control-valve 13 from the adaptor 11 to a suction device 60. In operation, the vessel 24 is filled from a hopper 58 and the cocks 43 are turned on and off, respectively. Material from the vessel 24 is thus injected into the chamber 3 until the bag 15 becomes filled. The bag 15 is then removed and a slide-plate 10 is closed over the hole 5. Both valves 43 and 56 are now opened and this completes the filling of the space 3. At the commencement of the operation material may be drawn in from the pressure chamber 24 under the action of the suction device 60. A seal 23 may then be removed and a further section of piping added for filling in the same manner.
