Abstract
870,893. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. SPANNER BOILERS Ltd. Aug. 24, 1959, No. 28796/59. Class 135. A safety valve arrangement for the control of a waste heat recovery boiler 1 comprises a discharge valve 63, a solenoid-operated valve means 37, 38 controlling the flow of steam from the boiler to the discharge valve, and a boiler pressure-responsive electric switch 24, 25 for controlling the solenoid-operated valve means, the solenoid and switch being in electrical series with a supply of electric current. As shown, the valve 63, which is connected to a piston 60, communicates with the boiler, and with a condenser-silencer 7 via pipes 66, 67. The piston is connected to a solenoid-operated valve 37, 38 which communicates with atmosphere through a pipe 39 and with the boiler via a pipe 11; the solenoid is operated by contacts 24, 25 actuated by a bellows 20 connected in the pipe 11. In operation, when the pressure in the boiler is normal, steam passes through the pipe 11, valve 37 and pipe 31 to act on the piston 60 thereby maintaining the discharge valve 63 closed; upon an abnormal increase in pressure, the bellows 20 expands and thereby closes the contacts 24, 25 which energizes the solenoid 33, 34 and, through a lever 35 closes the valve 37 and opens the valve 38. The pressure in the pipe 31 is then exhausted to atmosphere thereby permitting the piston to rise and open the discharge valve 63 so that the steam is released to the condenser 7.
