Abstract

870,405. Air-break isolating switches. ETABLISSEMENTS MERLIN & GERIN. Feb. 23, 1959, No. 6181/59. Addition to 832,893. Class 38 (5). The isolating switch of the parent Specification is provided with a movable contact in the form of jaws which, towards the end of the closing movement of the switch arm, are caused to approach each other so as to grip an overhead conductor. The jaws 20, 21 are pivoted on the free end 6 of the upper member 2 of the switch arm and are connected by links 26, 27 to one end of a spring-biased rod 9. The other end of the rod 9 carries a roller 30 which rolls on an inclined face 31 of the lower member 1. This occurs as the members 1, 2 approach their vertical position and causes the movement of the rod 9 relative to the member 2. The resulting pivoting of the links 26, 27 causes the jaws 20, 21 to grip the overhead conductor.
