Abstract

870,004. Bobbins; winding yarn. CINIGLIO, I. Oct. 15, 1959 [Oct. 17, 1958], No. 34997/59. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) A spool comprises a cylindrical shell which contracts to a predetermined diameter under the pressure of yarn wound thereon and expands to its original diameter on removal of the yarn and is constituted by circumferentially and axially-extending metal or plastic elements guided against one another and normally urged apart by springs interposed between them. As shown, elements 2 have arms 3 engaging in corresponding recesses in elements 1 in which leaf springs 4 are inserted. The elements are secured against relative axial movement by plates 5 affixed to elements 1 and the relative circumferential movements are guided and limited by pin-and-slot connections 6, 7. The spool is assembled for winding by inserting a spindle 8, Fig. 5, into the shell so that the end faces of elements 2 abut lugs 16 and advancing one disc 11 on a driving axle 17, by means of a screw-threaded engagement therewith, so that conical surfaces 10 and 12 on pairs of discs 9 and 11 coact to expand spring wire clips 13 into gripping engagement with the shell.
