Abstract
878,799. Blasting equipment. NITROGLYCERIN A. B. Jan. 29, 1958 [Jan. 30, 1957; April 25, 1957], No. 2906/58. Class 68(1). Explosive charges are fed by fluid, preferably air, under pressure to the bottom of a deep borehole 10 through a pipe 12 of flexible, plastics, anti-static material. Longitudinal grooves 22 are formed around the internal face of the pipe to avoid creation of excessive fluid pressures being built up in the pipe should a charge become jammed in the pipe, which for most of its length is of an internal diameter only slightly greater than the charge. The paper wrapping of a charge is cut away by knives 18 in the lower end of the tube. The knives 18 have arcuate base portions 20 that lie between a liner 16 bonded to the end 14 of the tube 12. The charges pass from a hopper 32 into a breach mechanism 40, 42 by which they are thrust past a non-return flap valve into a compartment that leads into the pipe 12 and to which compressed air can be admitted.
