Abstract
878,147. Ball-and-socket joints. COSSEL VON, H., and LARGEN, V., [trading as EHRENREICH & CIE, A.], Oct. 4, 1957 [24 Nov. 1956], No. 31223/57. Class 65(2). A preformed one-piece shell 4 of synthetic plastics material is fitted between the concentric part spherical surfaces of the ball 3 and rigid socket 1 and has part-spherical outer and inner bearing surfaces at least the inner of which is bounded by two parallel planes between which lies the centre of curvature. The shell is prevented from rotating relative to the socket by means of an intermediate ring 7 which has recesses (not shown) engaged by teeth on the edge of the shell and is held fast by a closure cap 8. Alternatively projections may be formed in the socket to penetrate into the material of the shell. The inner surface of the shell may be provided with grooves and/or slots to increase the resiliency of the shell and to assist lubrication. Specification 805,625 is referred to.
